Processes acting on the formation of subsurface flow (2)

In urban areas the interflow is reduced by several anthropogenic changes. First due to the sealing of the surface the infiltration of the precipitation is reduced. Consequently less free water will be available in the unsaturated soil layer. Additionally the natural soil layer may no longer exist. The construction activities might require the replacement and consolidation of the upper soil layer. By that the macro- and micropores are reduced decreasing the formation of interflow.
