Ecosystem Functions

Definition

An ecosystem is a dynamic system of plant, animal and microorganism communities and their non-living environment, interacting as a functional unit. Ecosystems, such as forests, wetlands and lakes comprise all the organisms present in the area along with their physical, or abiotic, environment and their mutual interactions.

Ecosystems play a vital role in determining the hydrological response of a river basin.
